Dear Boys and Girls,
Today we learned about Botanist Bert and his plants.  Can you tell me something you learned about plants and flowers or something you learned from our experiment?

  1. Dear Mrs. Koch,
I learned that flowers get water through the stem. Do we get to do experiments every week?

  3. Dear Mrs. Koch,
I liked the experiment because the flowers turned colors. Flowers get their water through the stem. They were pretty. I learned that they don't get their water from the petals. Do you like flowers?

  4. Dear Mrs. Koch,
I learned that flowers don't suck water from their petals. They drink water from their stem. Does Botanist Bert love all flowers?

  5. Dear Mrs. Koch,
I think that what we did was so awesome! I also think that the experiment that we did was so cool because I learned that flowers drink through their stem. Not through their petels. They don't get it from their petals because didn't turn another color.

  6. Dear Mrs.Koch,
Today I learned that the flower turned different colors because food coloring goes up their stem. What is our next experiment?

  7. Dear Mrs. Koch,
I learned about the experiment. I learned that the rose with the food coloring in the water changed color because it sucked up the water in the stem. What is our next experiment?

  8. Hi Delanie,
I am so glad you have joined our class. I hope you enjoyed your first day. We do an experiment each time we have a Quirkles lesson. Unfortunately, it is really hard to fit all of our curriculum components into a single SAGE day, so some weeks, we have to skip Quirkles. I am planning a Quirkles lesson for next week and it is one of my favorites! Enjoy your three day weekend and I will look forward to seeing you next week!

  9. Hi Anna,
I'm glad you have joined our class! You are a great addition to our group. Next week we will learn about Colorful Caroline. She is a lot of fun and so is our experiment. The best thing about it is that you will be able to do it at home with your family. Have a great three day weekend and tell your brother hello for me!

  10. Hi Maddison,
I'm glad you enjoyed the experiment. I do like flowers. I have a sack full of tulip bulbs I am hoping to get planted this weekend. Quite a bit of my yard is shady so I don't have a lot of great places for flower beds. but I am trying to add more. What about you? Do you like flowers? Which is your favorite?

  11. Hi Zacarias,
I think he would like all kinds of plants and flowers. If I were him, I would like the really bizarre plants like cactus, venus fly trap and even poison ivy. I think they are the most interesting plants-- besides the beautiful flowering plants. Have a fun three day weekend!

Great observations! I'm glad you enjoyed the experiment. Next week's Quirkle is Colorful Caroline. Her experiment is one of my favorites. Enjoy your three day weekend and tell your brother hello for me.

  13. Hi Jaynah,

I hope you are enjoying your long weekend. Next week our Quirkle scientist is Colorful Caroline. We will do two different experiments and both are ones you can do at home too! They are two of my favorite experiments.

  16. Hi Maddison,
It was a beautiful weekend! I ended up going to Silver Dollar City with my family. We had a lot of fun and we hadn't been away in a long time. My flower bulbs will just have to wait until this weekend. I hope I can get them in the ground soon!
